At Saltburn Primary School, we fully embrace the four guiding principles which shape the EYFS curriculum:
- All children are unique and constantly learning. They should be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured;
- Positive relationships encourage children to be strong and independent.
- Enabling environments, in which children’s experiences meet their individual needs and interests, help them to build their learning over time. Children benefit from a strong partnership between practitioners and parents and/or carers.
- Children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates.
The framework covers the education and care of all children in early years provision, including children with special educational needs and disabilities.
There are seven areas of learning and development
These 7 areas are used to plan your child’s learning and activities. The professionals teaching and supporting your child will make sure that activities are suited to your child’s unique needs. They are designed to be really flexible so that staff can follow your child’s needs and interests.
These areas are:
Personal, Social and Emotional Development (Self Regulation, Building Relationships, Managing Self)
Communication and Language (Listening and Attention and Speaking)
Physical Development (Fine Motor Skills and Gross Motor Skills)
Literacy (Word Reading, Comprehension and Writing)
Mathematics (Numbers and Numerical Patterns)
Understanding the World (Past and Present, People, Culture and Communities and The Natural World)
Expressive Arts and Design (Creating with Materials and Being Imaginative and Expressive)
Children in the EYFS learn by playing and exploring, being active, and through creative and critical thinking, which takes place both indoors and outside.
At the end of Reception our children will be assessed against the Early Learning Goals, and their progress shared with parents.
Please click on each attachments below to learn more about the seven areas of learning and how each area of learning progresses from Nursery until the end of Reception. The attachments showing our curriculum progression state how each area of learning links and feeds into the national curriculum to prepare our pupils for Year 1.
